Many visa applicants and applicants for other immigration benefits can now check their case status on the internet.

In order to use this system, applicants must have a receipt number for a petition or application filed at a BCIS Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly INS) Service Center.

Applicants without a receipt number must call the BCIS National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283 or visit a local BCIS (formerly INS) branch office to obtain information about their case.

How to use the Case Status online system:

• Go to: https://egov.immigration.gov/graphics/cris/jsps/index.jsp
• Click on: Case Status Online
• Enter your 13-character application receipt # listed on your visa petition or application receipt. Omit any dashes in this number.
• Press "Enter".

The most recent BCIS (formerly INS) action on your application will appear.
