Certain classes of Mexican workers coming to the U.S. to work may be able to take advantage of a shortened application process.


Category: (H-1B alternative) TN status
Quota: 5,500
Length of Status: up to one year

Application Process: labor certification and approved petition required; proof of Mexican citizenship, professional qualifications and job offer letter from U.S. employer must be presented at the U.S. border

Conditions:

  • must have a firm job offer with a U.S. company
  • must be engaged in a profession requiring a college degree or its equivalent

Limitations: unlike an H-1B visa, TN status applications can't be appealed if denied
