A new Web-based program in Los Angeles speeds up the process of renewing or replacing a green card from a year to a matter of days. The USCIS I-90 pilot program, which is available to Los Angeles-area residents, lets applicants apply online to replace or renew their green card instead of waiting in long lines.

How does the program work?
Applicants can sign up online using E-File to file their I-90 form. At the end of the online application process, a screen appears which prompts the user to choose an appointment time with the Application Support Center. They then print out a receipt for the appointment and bring it with them. After the visit, applicants should receive their new green card within days.

How much does it cost?
The base fee is $185.

What about a fingerprinting fee?
Those applicants who turned 14 since they received their green card or who are otherwise required to be fingerprinted must pay an additional biometric fingerprinting fee of $70.

How long does the program last?
The pilot program is a test program. It began March 26th and ends September 30, 2004.

How Do I E-File?
Go to the USCIS website and sign up to E-file electronically. Be sure to read the instructions for filing the I-90 form first. Click here to view the instructions page.

Which immigration forms are currently available for E-filing besides the I-90?
Click here to view the forms that can now be filed online. (USCIS website)

How can I track my case status after applying online?
You can track your case status online. Click here for more information.
